There is currently in Turin, Italy, a linen Shroud with a double-sided printed image of a crucified person, representing in all aspects the signs of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
This image was formed inexplicably, in a similar way to a three-dimensional photographic scanner. The image is made of very light print with clear traces of blood at the level of the wounds. Such image is impossible to reproduce even with modern techniques.
Moreover, it has incredibly survived centuries without deteriorating and even withstood heat and water after a fire in 1532. The image shows incredible anatomical details that accurately explain how the crucifixion happened.
These details match perfectly with the Passion of Jesus Christ, that also includes the scourging, the thorns crowning and the spear to the side. This extraordinary image is not only a living testimony of the Passion of Jesus Christ but it is also the ultimate sign of his Resurrection since the formation of the image follows a photographic technique that can only be explained by a flash of light in a black box, which we can easily imagine as being the dark tomb!
It is as if, by his Resurrection, Jesus Christ has invented the technique of photography! In addition, on the Shroud there is no trace of putrefaction of the body or of tearing of the tissue at the level of the wounds, which confirms that the body was dematerialized at the time of the image formation and that the image was made less than three days after death!
This Shroud is in a way the Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the "sign of Jonah" (Mt 12,38-41) that Jesus had promised to leave to "future generations" (Mk 8,12).
The Shroud of Turin
"Joseph of Arimathia, who bought a shroud, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in the shroud and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock. He then rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb." (Mk 15, 46)
"So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth." (Mt 27, 59)
"Then he took the body down, wrapped it in a linen cloth, and placed it in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had yet been laid." (Lk 23, 53)
If we believe that God undertook this unbelievable project of the Incarnation to make Himself TANGIBLE to Man, isn’t it logical that He would want to keep a TANGIBLE trace of His Incarnation?
If we believe that Jesus fulfilled this incredible miracle of the Resurrection, isn’t it logical that He leaves a TANGIBLE trace of this miracle?
If the Apostles who knew Him, still needed signs to believe in His resurrection, why would Christ deprive future generations of a sign if He
could leave one?
If we truly believe that Jesus is the Christ, why not believe that He is able to leave us this incredible trace of His Passion and Resurrection?
If He left us this trace and the Shroud is truly authentic, would it not be sad to think that Christ has left us this incredible sign of his Incarnation, his Passion and his Resurrection and that even nowadays we still refuse to see it?
Before analyzing the picture, it is important to underline the damages that have occurred on the Shroud during its history. These damages have altered the Shroud but not the image itself!
